As NASW-TCU students, we are involved around campus in many other capacities as well. We are RA’s, leaders in groups like Invisible Children, the Hunger Campaign, honor societies, sororities and athletics. Senior NASW-TCU students commit 480 hours over two semesters to an internship required by the major for non-profit, private and government agencies in the community. With these activities, NASW-TCU students make a major impact on TCU and in the surrounding area. What we accomplish as group of students while at TCU is impressive, and speaks loudly for the quality of social workers who graduate from TCU.

NASW-TCU was the first student organization to be officially linked with the National Association of Social Workers. It is a recognized organization of the University with membership open to all TCU students who are interested in social work. The organization began in the spring of 1978 in order to promote knowledge about social work at TCU, to facilitate communication among students, between students and faculty, to provide mutual support among students, and to promote social action and community service.

NASW-TCU sponsors activities at TCU including Hunger Week’s Heal Hunger Run, Fort Worth Civic Orchestra’s Teddy Bear Concert, Student Day at the Texas Legislature, and Social Work Day at the United Nations. We hold monthly meetings with speakers, games and discussion groups. Additionally, NASW-TCU provides the general campus with information about the profession of social work and TCU’s Department of Social Work at our “Get Social with Social Work” and “Social Workers Make Change” events.
